Growing instructions for our Christmas tree seeds
GROWING: Before planting the seeds, they should be stratified. Simply place the seeds in the refrigerator for a week. Then soak the seeds in water for a day. Once this has been done, the seeds can be planted approx. 1-2cm deep in moist growing soil. The growing container should then be placed in a bright spot at room temperature. Keep the substrate moist, but not wet. Quite some time may pass until germination. It can take several weeks or even a few months for the first seedlings to appear. Planting out is recommended outside of dry summer months or times of frozen soil.
LOCATION: In the further course of its life, the fir needs a sunny to semi-shady location with a deep and nutrient-rich soil that is rather moist. However, young seedlings in particular should be protected from too much direct sunlight.
CARE: The Nordmann fir is a fairly undemanding plant and therefore does not require extensive care. Just make sure to keep the soil constantly moist, especially during summerly periods of heat and dryness. For longer lasting moisture, the soil can be mulched. It is not necessary to add fertiliser.
WINTER: Especially when the trees are young, it can be advantageous to protect them from the cold with brushwood or fleece. Over time, however, they become more and more resistant and are eventually hardy.
